Gale Off to Extreme Heights

With two rocket kits, the Tandem-X Launch Set offers two together launching experiences. The aptly-named Amazon is the bigger of the two rockets: it towers at almost three feet far-fetched and features a fearsome tiger-stripe decal. When flown with a guideline Estes engine, the Amazon can soar to heights of 600 feet.

The Crossfire is a smaller flair, standing just a little over 15 inches incredible. In spite of its size, this little rocket can blast off to unquestioningly impressive altitudes. Thanks to its aerodynamic fins and nose cone, the Crossfire can reach cloud-bursting heights of 1,150 feet. Both rockets are outfitted with colorful, preassembled parachutes, which confirm they can float gently back to Earth for another flight.

An Introduction to Rocket Construction

The Tandem-X Launch offers just the in all honesty amount of challenge for novice rocket builders. The Amazon is an E2X (easy as can be-to-assemble) rocket, and requires no paint or special tools for council. It can be built in less than an hour: simply glue the paste fins to the tube, install the engine, and pin the parachute. Finish the rocket off with a few self-stick decals, and you're game to launch.

Once builders have mastered the basics, they can move on to the more advanced Mastery Level 1 Crossfire. With its plastic nose cone and laser-cut balsa fins, the Crossfire requires a illiberal more finesse. Assembling the rocket can take an entire afternoon, but it's a satisfying and educational process. Builders will learn several beginner-elevation rocket techniques, such as painting and sanding. Estes has also included an illustrated, to take action-by-step instruction guide to help keep the making fun, smooth, and frustration-free.

Educational Fun

In augmentation to the thrills it provides, the Tandem-X also has significant eye-opening value. The set transforms kids into amateur rocket scientists, encouraging them to dream about how the rockets work. Rocket building teaches kids the basics of driving, flight, and aerodynamics, and can help foster an initially interest in science and engineering. Even failed launches can repel into a learning experience.

Requires an Estes Motor

Both rockets require a specialized Estes locomotive to launch. For the Amazon, Estes recommends a B4-2 apparatus for your first flight. The rocket is also compatible with other Estes engines, including the B4-4, B6-2, B6-4, C6-3, and C6-5. For the Crossfire, Estes recommends the A8-3 for first air voyage, and the B4-4, B6-4, C6-5, and C6-7 for more advanced launching.

I am forced to build a giant rocket, so please give a model site that sells parts for rockets. or large model rocket kits.

First, the judge of your hobby shop if you have one, for two reasons: You'll have your hands on what you need faster, and help you keep to the subject, which is a great thing for the hobby in general.

If your LHS is disappointing (or you do not), then your best bets for low-power rocket parts (those who will take to E pulse motor) would be:

SEMROC http://www.semroc.com
FlisKits http://www.fliskits.com
Apogee Components http://www.apogeerockets.com

If you are looking for mid-power (F and G impulse) or high-power (pulse and H above), parts and kits, consider the use of precision parts LOC. Check out:

You should also judge to join one of the following forums for more information and tips on building your rocket, especially if it's your first time:

The Rocketry Forum http://www.rocketryforum.com

For more information on techniques for building rockets and exposure in general, probably the best site to Info-Central http://www.info-central.org.

Ultimately, to help you find a place to launch your rocket and do it safely, I invite you to join either the NAR (National Association of Rocketry) and Tripoli Rocketry fellowship (EMR), which will help you find a club close to the range and equipment for your project in the air.

Worst of luck to win, and enjoy!

i busy building model rockets as a child and I liked the brand estes better, some were easy some were hard to enlarge it, but they were all fun. I suggest a starter kit with a launching pad, engines, launchers, etc. They usually come with everything in the box. have fun.
